A new Kela card will arrive in the mail within about two weeks of your insurance relationship starting.

3. Can I use the sickness fund’s benefits if I have not yet received a Kela card with the sickness fund’s information?

4. Where do I send claims for compensation and daily allowance applications?

It is unnecessary if you are applying for compensation yourself, and the compensation is paid to you (fill in sections 1–4).

6. What medical care expenses does the sickness fund cover?
As a general rule, the fund compensates the same costs as those compensated under the Health Insurance Act. In addition, public healthcare costs, glasses, etc. are covered. You can read more about compensation in the fund’s rules.

However, oral and dental examinations cannot be covered more than once a year.

9. Can I buy glasses as soon as my insurance relationship has started?
You cannot. You must be insured by the sickness fund for one year (12 months). Note: From the start of the insurance relationship, not the employment relationship.

Examinations and treatment, as well as physical treatment, can also be undertaken at places other than contract partners. If you do so, pay the full price yourself and then apply for compensation separately from the sickness fund.

17. I am on a long period of sick leave/parental leave. Where can I check the daily allowance payment dates?
You can check the daily allowance payment dates in the Kela e-service or in your daily allowance decision (if your period of sickness allowance continues, the date of payment of the last instalment may change).

18. What attachments do I need to include when applying for partial sickness allowance?
As an attachment to the partial sickness allowance application, submit an SV 28 notification of part-time work and a medical certificate A from an occupational health doctor or a doctor otherwise familiar with the working conditions. Based on a medical certificate A, partial sickness allowance can usually be granted for a maximum of 60 days. After this, a more comprehensive medical certificate B is required.
